Mastectomy: Repair

Mastectomy done and healing.  Life should be cake.  But my body got pissy again.  A big chunk of tissue, right where my nipple used to be, decided to die.  Yup. I had a big black glassy chunk of dead tissue about the size of a golf ball.  So we needed to repair that by removing it.
Drains, scars and dead tissue.

I laugh that I was smiling in this pic

Nice wig eh?

They scheduled me for surgery.  We needed to get this taken care of before radiation could begin.  I was pushed 2 weeks out. So in the meantime I needed to keep that dying tissue from spreading.  I was packing it in silver nitrate cream.  Which was great for infection but didn't seem to be helping it from continuing to die. I decided to secretly add Frankincense essential oil to the ointment.  Secretly because I wasn't sure what my Dr. would say.  When surgery day came, he walked into my pre op to take pics and when he pulled my gown back his jaw dropped.  The tissue had regenerated itself.  There was only a tiny bit of dead tissue. He cancelled surgery!  Hurray!

But we rescheduled because I needed that skin healed before radiation.  It really was a simple fix. But another surgery. Blah.

Yay!  Off to radiation I go.

Next post: Reconstruction and NIPPLES!
